Anya Langmead trained at Bristol Polytechnic College of Art and Design in the late 1970s, where she received a BA(Hons) in Fine Art. There she studied sculpture, painting and print-making. After leaving art college she became interested in contemporary dance and visual theatre. For several years she studied dance and went on to co-found a visual theatre group called 'P6'. This group won the South-West Arts Choreography Award and worked with the notable choreographer Ian Spink.
In the 1990s Anya retired from dance but continued to study Iyengar Yoga and, later, Pilates. She concentrated on her art work and produced a large body of abstract oil paintings, which were exhibited throughout the South-West of England. During this time she also qualified as a traditional chinese acupuncturist and practised in Bristol. At the end of 1990s she wanted to learn more about computing and so moved to London to obtain an M.A. in Computing in Design/Digital Arts from Middlesex University. She then went on to become a web designer, working in the CIty and also for the National Archives in Kew.
In the last few years Anya has become increasingly interested in Buddhism and has become a mitra (a committed friend) at the North London Buddhist Centre with the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order. She creates images of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in Photoshop. She is also now a qualified Pilates Instructor. |
